保證好記！5句必學的英文慣用語

英文裡許多慣用語也喜歡用「X and Y」這樣的句型，而且「X」和「Y」不是押頭韻（alliteration）、就是押韻腳（rhyme），多唸上幾遍，很容易就記起來了。以下就舉幾個例子：

Betwixt and between 猶豫不決、模擬兩可

Betwixt指在「兩可之間」，而between是指在「兩者之間」，引伸形容模擬兩可的狀況或猶豫不決的態度。例句：

To stay or to leave, she is very betwixt and between, and can"t make up her mind. （對於留下或離開，她非常猶豫，無法下定決心。）

Forgive and forget 盡釋前嫌

Forgive指「原諒」，forget是「忘記」，望文生義就是指把仇恨一筆勾銷。

例句：
These two families had been feuding for a long time, but they now decided to forgive and forget. （這兩個家族長久以來互相仇視，但現在他們決定盡釋前嫌。）

Hustle and bustle 熙來攘往

Hustle和bustle都有「忙碌、奔忙」之意，兩個字合在一起，更強化了熙熙攘攘的意象。此外，也可以直接用來形容人們「進進出出」。

例句：
I can"t stand the hustle and bustle of big cities. （我受不了大城市的熙來攘往。）

I can"t concentrate on anything if others are hustling and bustling around me. （如果有人在我身旁進進出出，我就無法專心做任何事。）

Part and parcel 重要部分

Part和parcel都是指某事物的「一部分」，合在一起用來表示這一部分是不可或缺、極重要的。

例句：
Meeting friends is part and parcel of Mary"s daily life. （與朋友相聚是瑪麗日常生活的重要部分。）

Vim and vigor 精力充沛

Vim和vigor都是「精力、活力」的意思，用來形容某人熱力四射。

例句：
John complains that he doesn"t have the vim and vigor that he had in his twenties. （約翰抱怨他沒有二十幾歲時的精力了。）
